Mixie’s Tips:

  • Find an area with enough clear space for this activity, as your child will need to move around.

  • For questions 1–3, encourage your child to make the body movements described, then ask them the relevant question.

  • For a reminder of angry body signs, see Mixie’s Masterclass on Page 8.

Mixie’s Angry Body Sign Movement

1. Tight or loose fists:

  • Squeeze your fists really tight for 10 seconds and then relax them.

  • Repeat this a few times and notice how your hands feel.

Question: Do your fists ever feel tight like that when you are angry?

2. Angry feet:

  • Walk around the room slowly and calmly.

  • When your grown-up says “angry”, stamp your feet as you walk, until they say “walk normally”.

  • Repeat this a few times and notice how your feet feel.

Question: Do your feet ever want to stamp like that when you are angry?

3. Heartbeat Check:

  • Put your hands on your chest and feel how fast your heart is when you are calm.

  • Next, run around for two minutes, then feel how much faster your heart is beating.

Question: Does your heart ever beat fast like that when you are angry?

4. Other Body Signs:

  • Try to remember a time that you felt really angry.

Question: Do you remember noticing any other body signs when you have felt angry? If you did, try to explain what other body signs you noticed.
