Mixie’s Tips:

  • Find an area with enough clear space for this activity, as your child will need to move around.

  • For questions 1–3, encourage your child to make the body movements described, then ask them the relevant question.

  • For a reminder of scared body signs, look back at Mixie’s Masterclass on Page 4.

Mixie’s Scared Body Sign Movement

1. Breathing hands:

  • Place your hands on your chest or tummy and notice how fast your breathing is when you are calm.

  • Do 10 star jumps, then notice how fast you are breathing now.

Question: Does your breathing ever get fast like that when you are scared?

2. Scary body freeze:

  • Walk slowly around the room. When your grown-up says “scared”, freeze as if you have seen something really scary.

  • Do this a few times.

Question: Does your body ever freeze like that when you are scared?

3. Butterfly Tummy:

  • Pretend you are about to go on stage in front of lots of people and gently wiggle your tummy as if you have little imaginary butterflies flying around inside.

Question: Does your tummy ever feel strange like that when you are scared?

4. Other Body Signs:

  • Try to remember a time that you felt really scared.

Question: Do you remember noticing any other body signs when you have felt scared? If you did, try to explain what other body signs you noticed.

Well done, Explorer! You are now ready for Mixie’s 3rd Activity!
